Bobby Smith

Robert E. Lee Smith, Jr. (Bobby) left a profound legacy of community care. An accomplished entrepreneur, Bobby honored his late wife, Shirley, by establishing the Shirley A. Smith Infusion Center at MedStar Montgomery and making a $1.8 million planned gift, the largest individual donation in the hospital's history.
 
 

Varda Fink

When Varda Fink was diagnosed with breast cancer, she turned to MedStar Health for her oncology treatment. After having surgery at MedStar Georgetown University Hospital, she came to her community hospital, MedStar Montgomery Medical Center, to continue her care. To express her gratitude for how the MedStar Montgomery team treated her, Varda decided to make a philanthropic commitment to the new oncology center at the hospital. Through her expression of gratitude, Varda is uplifting our oncology services and helping strengthen her community.
 

Pat Pomanchock

Patricia (Pat) Romanchock enjoyed a nearly 40 year career at MedStar Montgomery Medical Center before retiring in 2017. In 2022, she experienced the hospital from a different perspective when she was diagnosed with cancer. She praised her care team, including Dr. Jennifer Son, Dr. Luther Ampey, and Dr. Nora Sudarsan, for their guidance and support throughout her treatment, describing it as an outstanding experience. Inspired by her journey as a patient, Pat made a generous philanthropic commitment to renovate and expand the Oncology Pavilion at MedStar Montgomery. 
 
 

Deena Barlev

At 60, Deena Barlev completed her third backpacking trip across the Grand Canyon, feeling healthy and strong, but her life took a turn when a breast screening MRI revealed cancer. Grateful for the compassionate care she received from the specialists at MedStar Montgomery Medical Center, Deena felt supported throughout her journey and is now dedicated to giving back by serving on the Philanthropy Committee of MedStar Montgomery.
